The Telehealth Institute allows students from various disciplines to apply what they are learning in the classroom to positively impact our communities and develop into champions for telehealth within their discipline.
The institute excels in preparing future psychologists and is an approved site for many APA accredited programs throughout the region. Our program has been featured in the APA monitor, and our team is referenced as leaders in the field in the latest APA Telepsychology Guidelines.
Continuing education
The Telehealth Institute offers asynchronous continuing education courses on the subject of telehealth.
Courses can be purchased individually or as a set. Group rates are available. The Telehealth Institute can also offer custom synchronous training virtually or in person.
Telehealth 101. This course discusses what telehealth services have to offer and the concerns that some clinicians may have while implementing telehealth in their practice. Other topics covered include the history of telehealth, terminology, modalities, and telehealth pros and cons. (2 credits)
Multicultural Aspects of Rural Health. Following Telehealth 101, this course helps clinicians identify barriers to healthcare in rural populations and explores ways to approach rural health compared to healthcare in an urban area. (2 credits)
Laws and Ethics of Telehealth. This course reviews ethical concerns in telehealth, APA’s Guidelines for the Practice of Telepsychology, and the implications of PSYPACT for the field of telemental health. (2 credits)
Managing Crises and Emergencies in Telehealth. Topics covered include risk trends, risk assessment, developing written plans for crises and emergencies, and effective safety planning. (2 credits)
Treatment Considerations. Special treatment considerations related to telehealth practice are explored, as well as how to overcome unique challenges. (2 credits)

Texas Telehealth Internship Consortium
The Texas Telehealth Internship Consortium trains interns using a telehealth model to provide mental health care to traditionally underserved populations who have limited access to counseling services.
This is a partnership between the Texas A&M Health Telehealth Institute and the Baylor Scott and White Warriors Research Institute.
Project Echo
Project Echo, developed at the University of New Mexico, is a lifelong learning and guided practice model dedicated to disseminating best practice knowledge in rural and underserved areas.
