John Mogford

Jon Mogford, PhD

Dr. Mogford is an executive director at Texas A&M Health, with a distinguished career in biomedical innovation, research leadership, and digital health strategy. As former senior vice president of Texas A&M Health, he played a pivotal role in shaping the university's strategic priorities, particularly in telehealth and digital health.

Recognizing the growing importance of technology in health care, Mogford leveraged his leadership to elevate telehealth from a program to an institute, ensuring it became an institutional priority rather than a standalone initiative. His strategic investments not only advanced telehealth research and service delivery but also laid the groundwork for a world-class digital health team under the leadership of Jim Colson.

Before his tenure at Texas A&M, Dr. Mogford held key leadership roles at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), including acting director, deputy director, and program manager. His pioneering programs focused on scar-free wound regeneration, metabolic control for blood loss survival, biomarker-responsive drug delivery, and stem cell-based universal donor red blood cell production-advancing life-saving biomedical innovations that bridged the gap between fundamental science and real-world applications.

A specialist in wound healing, cellular therapies, tissue engineering, and vascular physiology, Mogford conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Chicago before transitioning to wound healing research as a faculty member at Northwestern University. He has authored or co-authored 29 peer-reviewed publications in these fields.

Mogford holds a bachelor's degree in zoology from Texas A&M University and a PhD in medical physiology from the Texas A&M Health Science Center. His visionary leadership in digital health and telehealth continues to shape the future of education, research, and patient care at Texas A&M Health.
